Alright, hear me out—Vegas used to be the spot for gambling, wild nights, and crazy stories. But lately? It’s feeling way too overrated. The prices are insane, the experience is watered down, and unless you’re rolling in cash, it’s just not the same anymore.
Let’s start with the obvious: everything is expensive as hell now. The Fontainebleau Las Vegas just opened, and yeah, it’s fancy, but good luck booking a room without selling a kidney. Even a basic night out is getting ridiculous. Wanna hit Carbone Las Vegas for some pasta? That’s easily $100 per person. And don’t get me started on the Wynn Buffet—used to be one of the best deals in town, but now it’s overpriced like everything else.
Then there’s the gambling. The days of cheap tables and easy comps? Gone. Walk into Circa Las Vegas or any of the big spots on the Strip, and you’ll see $25 minimum bets on a Tuesday afternoon. And if you’re thinking of hitting up VegasX online to warm up before the trip—yeah, good luck with that. House edge everywhere is brutal.
I get it, people come here for the experience, but even that’s changing. You can barely walk the Strip without getting bombarded by promoters or dealing with dudes handing out "free club entry" that’s definitely not free. Even shows and attractions feel more about making money than actually giving you a good time. Like, I’d rather rent a car from Costco Car Rental and drive to Encore Boston at this point. At least I wouldn’t have to deal with resort fees.
And if we’re talking food—yeah, Vegas has some amazing spots, but even that’s become too much. I checked out Din Tai Fung Las Vegas, and while the dumplings were great, I couldn’t ignore the crazy wait times. Same with Golden Steer Las Vegas—the menu is legendary, but is it worth dealing with influencers snapping pictures every five seconds? Not really. Even some of the hyped-up places like Toca Madera Las Vegas feel more like overpriced photo ops than actual restaurants. If I’m spending that much on a meal, I might as well look up vegan restaurants near me and save some cash.
Even the party scene isn’t what it used to be. Stadium Swim is cool, but you’re paying premium prices just to be packed in like sardines. Back in the day, you could hit a solid club and get in without some promoter demanding bottle service. Now, even getting into a decent pool party requires knowing a guy who knows a guy. At this point, I’d rather grab a bottle of 6666 Vodka and have a real party somewhere else.
Even the... "alternative" Vegas experiences are overpriced now. Places like Chicken Ranch Nevada (not that I’d know, of course
) have jacked-up prices thanks to all the tourists who don’t know any better.
It’s not all bad—events like Lovers and Friends Festival are still fun, and if you’re into football, keeping up with NFL transactions while placing some bets can be entertaining. But honestly? Vegas isn’t what it used to be. The best experiences are either insanely expensive or require knowing all the loopholes.
Maybe I’m just jaded, but I think the real fun in Vegas is fading. Change my mind.
