Alright, I’ve had it. Can someone tell me what in the hell is going on with California and sports betting? Every other state seems to be moving forward—hell, even states I never expected to allow gambling have some form of legal betting by now. But California? Stuck in limbo.
I just got back from a trip to Nevada, and let me tell you, placing a simple bet on an NFL game should not require crossing a state line like I’m some kind of outlaw. Why is it that the most populated state in the U.S., with massive sports teams and fan bases, still can’t figure this out?
They had Prop 26 and Prop 27 in 2022, and what happened? Both failed. Tribal gaming groups don’t want competition, online sportsbooks want a piece of the action, and meanwhile, the people who actually want to bet get stuck on the sidelines while lawmakers argue over money and control. It’s not about regulation or protecting the people—it’s about greed, plain and simple.
So what’s next? 2024? 2026? 2030?! At this rate, I’ll be retired and watching hologram football before they let Californians place a legal bet.
Anyone else in CA tired of this nonsense? Or are we all just doomed to keep sending money to offshore books and road-tripping to Vegas like it’s the 1980s?
