As a lifelong football fan, I’ve learned one thing—betting on your favorite team is a guaranteed way to get your heart broken. I try to be objective, I really do. But every time my local team, Bristol City, plays, I end up placing a bet on them, thinking, “This time, they’ve got it.” Spoiler alert: they don’t always ‘got it’.
Last weekend was a prime example. I put down a modest bet on them winning, convinced they’d pull through. Of course, they lost. Again. Meanwhile, my mate, who has zero emotional attachment, bet against them and walked away with a nice little payout. Talk about adding insult to injury.
So, my question is—how do you separate your emotions from your bets? Do you strictly bet based on odds and form, or do you let loyalty sway you? I feel like the more I try to bet smart, the more my love for my team gets in the way. Would love to hear some strategies from you guys who manage to bet with your head instead of your heart!
