Gambling in Australia: myths & reality

Had a chat with some younger surfers recently—kinda wild how many think gambling is an easy path to quick cash. One dude mentioned his mate pulled in $35K in a day using betting apps. Apparently, there is this “system” floating around where they use bonus bets to cover both sides of a bet, stacking accounts to repeat the process. Tracking everything on spreadsheets like it is some secret formula.

I get the hype—when you hear someone nailed a big win, it is easy to think it is all smooth sailing. But let’s be real—casinos and betting platforms are built to profit. Even if you hit a lucky streak, the house knows most people eventually lose. Plus, dodgy stuff like buying accounts can get you banned fast.

Tried explaining this, but got hit with the classic “boomer” vibe. 😂 Guess it is hard to see the risks when you are riding the wave of a big win. Still, for every success story, there is a lineup of folks who wiped out chasing that next jackpot.

Anyone else noticed this trend lately? Seems pretty common around Sydney, but curious if it is the same elsewhere.
