Michael pryde and the risks of betting schemes

Heard about the Michael Pryde case recently—kinda wild, but also a reminder of how risky those “guaranteed profit” betting schemes can be. Pryde ran Simply The Bets with a supposed algorithm for sports betting, but after piling up losses, he borrowed over $1 million from friends and family trying to cover it. Ended up bankrupt, facing deception charges, and now has to repay $100k with two years of community service and mental health treatment.

Honestly, I get how betting can be tempting—there's that rush when you’re on a winning streak. But when people start chasing losses, it’s like swimming against a rip current: the harder you fight, the deeper you sink. I've always seen gambling as a fun escape, not a way to make a living. Whether it's pokies or betting on cricket, I stick to what I can afford to lose—keeps things light and enjoyable.

Curious, though—have any of you come across these “foolproof” betting systems? Feels like they pop up everywhere these days.
