I've been using autoplay on a few slots recently when someone comes in at work while I'm playing. Is it just lazy or does it actually affect the win potential? Should I pause? Think small and quick slots winnings can come like this?

nah it doesn't affect the win rate at all. and you can pick the auto stop limit over certain wins so you don't miss out on the fun like somebody else said
